About the PxMagic Site
This 'Creating and Selling Digital Art' site is exactly that: a compact summary
of the equipment and software required to create electronic
or digital art, and the various approaches open to its sale
as files or prints. All you need is here if you read
beyond the summaries to listed websites and the occasional book
and magazine but you will also require ideas, flair,
originality and dedication.
Refer headings for topic groupings on Creating and Selling
Digital Art, and the left-hand panel for individual topics.
The gallery displays the results of simple image manipulations,
an indication of what's possible with the simplest of tools.
Digital art is a new and fast-expanding field, still only
partly recognized by the art world, and so an admirable place
to start or expand a career in the graphic or visual arts.
Don't expect immediate stardom, however: the gallery business
is cautious about selling digital art, given that material can
be so easily duplicated, and flat screen displays are still
expensive. Also expensive can be producing very large prints
from the electronic files delivered as an end-product to customers.
Like everything else in the worlds of art, you'll need to
keep in touch with what's happening by browsing Internet galleries,
reading reviews and mixing with fellow digital artists.
Features
of Digital Art
Digital art is art created by a computer, either purely so
via fractals etc., created by vector graphics software using
a mouse or graphics tablet, or taken from photographs so enhanced
as to bear little resemblance to their originals.
The digital art movement has been fueled by the Internet and
rapidly improving standards in software and computer hardware,
particular monitors and printers.
Digital art and photography is now an acceptable medium of
creation, and examples are finding homes in leading museums
and galleries. Some major museums are starting special collections
of digital art, and fears of authenticity are being countered
by responsible artists erasing the file after producing a set
number of prints. The prints themselves are now of acceptable
quality, moreover, and tests suggest that they will last 60-100
years.

Status
of Digital Art
Digital art is gaining in popularity but suffers from various problems,
notably:
-
association with cheap art peddled through the Internet.
-
ease with which files may be duplicated, making for nightmares
with provenance and authenticity.
-
certificates of authenticity that can be easily faked.
Against these must be set:
-
easier working environment for artists.
-
lucrative proceeds for galleries.
-
Ease with which digital artworks can be customized to display
environment.
